Basic Needs: warm, dark, quiet, intake exam and handling

Stages of Development & Corresponding Needs

Housing Needs:  Heating pads, bat boxes and specific housing requirements

Diet: Species and age specific, diet and nutrition.

Release: Expectations, & requirements, timing and location.

Medical: Triage, common injuries, parasites, rabies and other diseases, medication, hydration, basic anatomy, protocols for vet visits.

Description

The YBWA Bat Walk and Talk series begins in June and runs to the beginning of September. Attendance will be by online reservation only. To sign up, please go to the Yolo Basin Foundation website and click on the link opposite the desired date. You may reserve up to six spots per family. If you wish to bring a larger group (e.g. scouts, PTA school trip, church group, or a bunch of your friends), please contact Corky at 530-902-1918 to arrange a private tour. Private Tours involve the same presentation and tour and are a flat fee of $175.

 

    Description:

    The program begins with a 45 minute indoor presentation on bat natural history and includes an opportunity to view live bats. Then the group will carpool to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area to watch one of the largest colonies of Mexican free-tailed bats in California as it emerges to hunt insects at sunset. bat_fly_out_7-20-05_people_web_sm

    Those in wheel chairs or unable to walk may view the bats by car. Please let us know if you have special needs.

  2. Description: California Duck Days, a wetlands festival in the heart of the Pacific Flyway, will be held on February th and th. A gala reception and Wildlife Art Show will launch the festivities on Friday evening February th at the Davis Arts Center, from 5:30 to 7:30pm. This event is free to the public.

    On Saturday the festival will feature one full day of field trips, workshops and other activities at the Yolo Wildlife Area Headquarters facility in South Davis.

    Join NorCal Bats in celebrating Creek Week at the Celebration in Carmichael Park.  The idea is to draw attention to the need to protect local creeks and aquatic life. There will be activities for children and adults that are focused around exploring and learning about the creeks. Opportunities to join volunteer teams for creek cleaning are also available and offer ample conservation and protection rewards by cleaning trash and debris as well as removing invasive exotic plants. The 2nd annual Lake Tahoe Bird Festival kicks off the weekend events on Saturday, June 4th at 10am presented by the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS).The bird festival will provide an opportunity for all ages to learn about migratory birds and how local scientists are working for their benefit. Aspiring birdwatchers can learn about the latest binoculars and spotting scopes, and homeowners can get tips on dealing with those pesky woodpeckers.

    The events will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day and include bird walks, a species spotlight, crafts, live birds, a kid zone, a raffle, music and food. Sponsors for the weekend's activities include California Trout, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the South Tahoe High School Generation Green Club.
